Michael P. O'Brien
Director of Research and Investment Strategy

Michael O'Brien is the Director of Research and Investment Strategy for the AVR team. Prior to joining AVR in the spring of 2016, Mr. O'Brien was a portfolio manager at OMT Capital Management running their Select Growth Strategy and a long/short equity hedge fund. The Select Growth Strategy was a concentrated, long-only, small cap fund focused primarily on investments in the technology, healthcare and consumer verticals. From 2000 to 2008, he worked as a Director for Thomas Weisel Partners investment bank in institutional sales specializing in helping to provide financing for emerging small cap companies. Mr. O'Brien received his BA from Ohio University and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of San Francisco. Outside of the office, he can be found spending time with his wife and two young boys as well as helping to raise money for underprivileged youth throughout the Bay Area through The Guardsmen.
